How the forum is divided. Find them under Diskuze → Kategorie.

Disabling a category#
To hide a category from the website, switch off Active (shown on the website). A disabled category:
- returns a "not found" page (404) on the website — and so do all its subcategories, even when they are switched on themselves,
- is missing from the category menu, from subcategory listings and from the sitemap for search engines.
Posts classified in a disabled category are not hidden — a post may sit in another category too. Switch the category back on with the same switch; nothing is lost.
Disable an unused category, do not delete it
Disabling can be undone. Deleting cannot.
Deletion takes the whole subtree with it
Subcategories go too. And since posts are classified into categories, you lose what was in them as well.
Structuring the forum#
Start with five categories, not twenty
An empty forum with twenty categories looks abandoned. You can add at any time; merging is not possible — a category cannot be merged, only deleted.
Moving a category recalculates the whole tree
On a large forum that takes a moment. Do not interrupt it, and check the tree afterwards.
Preferred categories#
A template may show the category tiles on its home page in preferred mode: only the top-level (root) categories with Preferred switched on, followed by an All categories tile that lists the rest when clicked. The All categories tile appears only when some category was left out. Whether a template uses this mode depends on the template.
Paid topic creation#
The Price list (region × gateway) section decides whether starting a topic in the category costs money.

A category has no VAT rate of its own; the price list shows the default rate from the Invoicing settings.

Clearing a cell removes that price from the price list.
What the author pays#
- Only starting a new topic is paid. Replies are always free.
- If the topic is in at least one Free category, nothing is paid.
- If it is only in paid categories, the author goes straight to the payment page after submitting. It has one item for each unpaid paid category of the topic; paying all of them is not necessary — the topic is published as soon as any one of them is paid.
- Until it is paid the topic is hidden: it is missing from listings, search and the TOP panel, and only the author can open its page — with the notice "A topic in a paid category is published once it is paid." and a Pay button. In My posts it carries the badge Awaiting payment – pay, which leads to the payment.
- Once paid, the topic is published automatically.
After unticking Free, go through the whole price list
Fill in prices for every region and gateway authors should pay with, and tick Active on them.
Visibility is paid for separately
Highlighting, Topbox and show links are tariffs, independent of the category price.
