Creating one#
- přidat → write the question for each language.
- Add the answers with the Add answer button and fill in their text, in all languages too. The answer text is required in the first language and in every active translation — the form will not save an empty answer and shows "Enter the answer text. Remove an answer you no longer need with the Remove button."
- Assign a placement where it should show.
- Switch on active.
Three to five answers are enough
A longer list goes unread and splits the votes so thinly that the result says nothing.
Voting#
Votes are counted on the answer. The system records the IP and time of each vote.
From one IP address a poll can be voted in only once. A further attempt is refused with the message "You have already voted." and the vote count does not change. A disabled poll is not shown on the site and a vote for it is refused ("The poll is closed, voting is no longer possible.").
An IP address is not a person
People on a shared connection (an office, a school, a household) often share one IP — then only the first of them can vote. Conversely, whoever changes their IP (another network, mobile data) can vote again. For an entertaining poll that is enough; for anything that matters it is not.
A poll is not a decision-making tool
The result can be influenced and only whoever happened to visit votes. Treat it as a bit of colour on the page.
Changes while it runs#
An answer is removed with the Remove button on its row. It cannot be deleted by clearing its text — the form refuses an empty text.
Procedure: remove an answer that already has votes#
- Click Remove on the answer.
- The question "Remove an answer with votes?" appears with the number of its votes.
- Confirm with Remove (or go back with Cancel).
- Save the poll. The answer is deleted only when you save.
Deleting an answer takes its votes with it
After saving, the answer is deleted together with its votes and the shares of the other answers are recalculated from the remaining votes only. The result then looks as if nobody had ever voted for the deleted answer. If you no longer want to offer an answer, rather end the whole poll and start a new one.
Rewording the question invalidates the votes cast so far
People voted on something else. Fix the text only for a typo.
Ending a poll#
Switch active off. The poll and its results stay in the administration; it disappears from the site and no longer accepts new votes.
Run a poll only for a limited time
A year-old question makes the site look abandoned.
