Module settings#
The discussion settings — listing lengths, image uploads, approval and confirmation of posts, and who may write. You will find them under Discussion → Settings.
The page is split into three tabs: General, Behavior and Images. The General and Behavior tabs are saved with one shared button below the form, so you save the changes from both at once. The Images tab has its own Save images button. After saving you stay on the tab you were working on.
General#
Listings#
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Posts per page | how many posts appear on one page of the listing |
| Comments per page | how many comments appear on one page under a post; top-level comments are counted, replies stay with them. Readers move between pages with the Newer comments and Older comments buttons |
Image upload#
Limits for the images visitors attach to posts.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Allowed MIME types (comma-separated) | which file types a visitor may upload, for example image/jpeg,image/png,image/gif,image/webp |
| Max. image size (MB) | the cap on the size of one uploaded image |
Behavior#
Approval and confirmation#
Three switches decide whether a new post may go on the site at once or waits for something:
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Automatic approval | on: new posts are published without approval by an administrator. Off: they wait for approval — you publish them in the post's edit form with the Approved switch |
| Logged-in users must confirm via the e-mail link | on: a logged-in author receives an e-mail with a link after submitting, and the post appears on the website only after the link is clicked. Off: the post is confirmed immediately and the author only receives a notice that it was added |
| Guests (not logged in) must confirm via the e-mail link | the same for an author who writes without logging in |
Approval (you) and confirmation (the author) are two different things, and a post is published once both are met. The switches decide only at the moment of posting — posts already submitted are neither hidden nor published by changing them. Details are in Posts.
Who may write#
Three switches apply to the whole module, not to individual categories:
| Setting | What it restricts |
|---|---|
| Posts only for logged-in users | starting posts and replying |
| Comments only for logged-in users | comments under a post |
| Ratings only for logged-in users | rating posts (thumbs) |
Comments on a single post are switched off with Allow comments in its edit form (the author on the website with Show comments) — see Posts.
Images#
The Images tab decides how images uploaded for posts and categories are resized. For each usage of an image you tick the variants of resized copies, give them an alias (the folder name) and choose whether the original is kept. The size and watermark of the individual variants are managed in Settings → Image variants.
The tab has its own Save images button.
Changes apply only to newly uploaded images
Files already stored stay as they are.
