Categories and parameters#
The catalogue's trades and the fields filled in for a company.
Parameters#
They work exactly as in the classifieds. A parameter is one form field — with a key, an input type and possibly options.
The types most useful in a company catalogue:
| Type | For |
|---|---|
| Text | name, street, company number |
| Rich-text area | the company description |
| Phone, email, URL | contacts |
| Region select | where the company is based |
| Opening hours | a table of days and hours |
| Image upload | logo and photos |
| Distance from an address | "within 20 km of me" searches |
Make the company number a text field, not a number
A numeric field swallows a leading zero and a company whose number starts with one no longer matches.
Search#
Each parameter specifies whether it also appears in the filter, and which field type it uses there.
Put trade, region and open-now in the filter
People will not work through more than that. The rest belongs on the detail.
Categories#
The catalogue's trades. They form a tree and are moved by dragging.
| Field | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Name, URL, description | per language |
| Parent category | |
| Free | the listing is not paid for |
| Credits | the price in credits |
| Listing validity in days | how long a profile lasts |
| Administrator only | an ordinary user cannot list into it |
| Preferred | highlighted in listings |
| Active |
The category counter does not update instantly
The number of companies is a stored figure settled at the periodic recalculation.
Prices#
Entered per combination of region + payment gateway.
Ticking Free hides the price table but does not clear it
The prices are still saved and reappear when the flag is unticked. Go through them.
Category parameters#
Either the default parameters or your own targeting. Each one specifies whether it is required and whether it also appears in search.
Trades differ more than you expect
A restaurant needs cuisine and a terrace; a garage needs brands and services. Custom targeting makes more sense here than in the classifieds.
Pushing down to subcategories#
Pushing down overwrites ALL subcategories without asking
Prices and parameter targeting alike. There is no way back.
Deleting a category#
The whole subtree goes with it
Disable an unused trade instead.
