Adverts#

The posted listings. Find them under Inzerce → Inzeráty.

What an advert carries#

The content itself — title, description, price, photos — are parameters. Only these fields are fixed:

Block Contents
Classification categories (possibly several), who posted it
Posting time, IP, language; read-only
Activation the editing password, activation key, confirmed on, approved on
Moderation paid, banned, deactivated, deleted, reported, sold
Validity expiry, promoted until
Counters views on the detail and in listings

The moderation fields appear only once a category is picked

Until one is chosen the form is nearly empty. That is not a fault — the system does not know which parameters to offer.

An advert's journey#

  1. The user posts it.
  2. They confirm it by a link in an email — if confirmation is enabled.
  3. You approve it — if approval is enabled.
  4. It is paid for, unless the category is free.
  5. It shows until its validity runs out.

Approval and confirmation are two different things#

Step Who does it
Confirmation the user, by an email link
Approval you, in the administration

Keep both on until you know what people post

Confirmation filters out made-up email addresses, approval the rest. Once it is clear no spam is arriving, you can turn either or both off.

Moderation flags#

Flag Meaning
Paid the paid category has been settled
Banned an administrator stepped in
Deactivated temporarily hidden
Deleted removed by the user or by you
Reported readers flagged it
Sold the goods are no longer available

Deletion is soft

The advert disappears from listings but the data stays. It can therefore be restored — and there is something to go on in a dispute.

View counters#

Besides the real counters, an advert carries optional figures that can be set by hand.

Hand-set figures distort your statistics and are visible to users

If you raise them to make an advert look busier, do it knowing that you are devaluing your own evidence about what people are interested in.

Editing an advert in the administration#

Editing in the administration sends no emails at all

Not activation, not saved searches, not followers. That is deliberate — otherwise every typo fix would send out dozens of messages. Count on followers not knowing about your change.

The editing password#

An advert posted without logging in carries a password that allows editing.

The password cannot be deleted, only replaced

An empty field means "keep the current one". To take a user's access away, enter a new password and the old one stops working.

Price and sorting#

The price is a parameter; its value is also stored as a number for sorting and filtering.

Prices in different currencies are not converted

Sorting "by price" therefore mixes currencies. On a single-currency board that does not matter; on a multi-currency one, expect it.

If you change a price directly in the database or in bulk, it corrects itself at the next routine recalculation.

Followers#

An advert carries a list of people following it.

They are only alerted when the price changes

A change of title, description or photos alerts nobody. And deleting a follower is irreversible — unlike replies, it is not a soft delete.
