Discussion — module overview#
A forum. Visitors start topics and reply to each other. The module is deliberately simple — no parameters, no saved searches, no expiry.
What it consists of#
| Part | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Categories | how the forum is divided |
| Posts | topics and replies alike |
| Tariffs and payments | promoting a post |
The settings are under Diskuze → Nastavení.
A topic and a reply are the same thing#
The most important thing about this module: a post and a thread are one and the same. A reply is a post that has a parent post. The nesting makes the tree.
That is why everything can be moved
A reply can be moved under another topic, or turned into a topic of its own. You only change its parent post.
Who may write#
Set for the whole module, not per category:
| Option | What it restricts |
|---|---|
| Posts for logged-in users only | starting topics and replying |
| Comments for logged-in users only | comments under a post |
| Ratings for logged-in users only | the thumbs |
Per-category permissions do not exist
You cannot make one category public and another members-only. Either the whole forum is open, or the whole forum is for logged-in users.
What the module does not have#
| Missing | Substitute |
|---|---|
| Locking a thread | turn Allow comments off on the post, or deactivate it |
| Disabling a category | a category can only be deleted |
| Paid access | only promotion is paid for |
| Post expiry | posts stay forever |
A forum is about moderation, not configuration
The module deliberately offers little. The work is done by going through reported posts regularly, not by adjusting settings.
