Discussion — module overview#

A forum. Visitors start topics and reply to each other. The module is deliberately simple — no parameters, no saved searches, no expiry.

What it consists of#

Part Purpose
Categories how the forum is divided; a category can be disabled and topic creation in it charged for
Posts topics and replies alike
Reported posts what visitors flagged as inappropriate
Tariffs and payments post visibility and payments
Module settings listings, image upload, approval, who may write

The settings are under Diskuze → Nastavení.

Approving and confirming posts#

In the settings you decide whether a new post may go on the site at once or has to wait for something:

Setting What it does
Automatické schvalování (automatic approval) on: the post is published without your approval. Off: it waits until you approve it with the Schváleno (approved) switch in the post's edit form
Přihlášený uživatel musí potvrdit odkazem z e-mailu (logged-in users must confirm by the email link) on: a logged-in author gets an email with a link and the post is published once they click it. Off: confirmed at once
Nepřihlášený uživatel musí potvrdit odkazem z e-mailu (users who are not logged in must confirm by the email link) the same for an author who writes without logging in

Approval (you) and confirmation (the author) are two different things, and a post is published once both are satisfied. The switches decide only at the moment of posting — posts already in the forum are neither hidden nor published by changing them. Details in Posts.

A topic and a reply are the same thing#

The most important thing about this module: a post and a thread are one and the same. A reply is a post that has a parent post. The nesting makes the tree.

That is why everything can be moved

A reply can be moved under another topic, or turned into a topic of its own. You only change its parent post.

Who may write#

Set for the whole module, not per category:

Option What it restricts
Posts for logged-in users only starting topics and replying
Comments for logged-in users only comments under a post
Ratings for logged-in users only the thumbs

Per-category permissions do not exist

You cannot make one category public and another members-only. Either the whole forum is open, or the whole forum is for logged-in users.

What the module does not have#

Missing Substitute
Locking a thread turn Allow comments off on the post, or deactivate it
Paid entry to the forum only starting a topic in a paid category and visibility are paid for
Post expiry posts stay forever

A forum is about moderation, not configuration

The module deliberately offers little. The work is done by going through reported posts regularly, not by adjusting settings.
