Polls#
Short polls on the site.
How to vote#
Pick an answer and click Vote. The site confirms "Your vote has been recorded." and the results are recalculated straight away. Each answer shows its share in per cent, and the poll shows the total number of votes underneath — even before you vote.
One vote per IP address
The site does not remember you but the IP address you voted from. Another browser will therefore not give you a second vote — the site answers "You have already voted." The same can happen when you share a connection with someone who has already voted (at work, at school, at home).
If the vote cannot be saved, the site says "Your vote could not be recorded." A closed poll is not shown on the site; if you still have it open from an older page, the site answers "The poll is closed, voting is no longer possible."
How to read the results#
A poll does not tell you what the public thinks
Only people who happened to visit and wanted to vote take part. A hundred votes on a gardening site say nothing about what all gardeners think.
Look at the number of votes, not just the percentages
60 % of twenty votes means twelve people.
The poll has no answer I would pick#
Then it is better not to vote
Choosing "the nearest option" only devalues the result. You can write the missing option in the comments.
