Events and the calendar#
A list of events — dates, places, descriptions.
Where to find them#
The menu usually includes a calendar or an events listing. Events are listed with the nearest first.
What an event usually shows#
| Field | Note |
|---|---|
| Name and description | |
| Date and time | the start, sometimes the end |
| Place | the address, sometimes a map |
| Admission | |
| Contact | the organiser |
Check the year, not just the date
With recurring events it is easy to confuse this year's with last year's.
Multi-day events#
They are usually shown as a range. The programme for each day is normally in the description.
Changes and cancellations#
Events get cancelled and postponed
This is particularly common with outdoor events. Check again before setting off, especially if you have a long journey.
The organiser's contact is there for exactly this
If you are unsure, phone. This is faster than hunting through social networks.
Adding to your calendar#
If the site offers a calendar download, use it.
Set the reminder well ahead
Not for the starting hour but for the day before — so you have time to travel.
Your own events#
If the site allows submitting events, the listing usually includes a link.
State the end time, not only the start
The first thing people want to know is whether they can make it.
Verify the address
A wrong address means people in the wrong place. Copy it from a map rather than writing it from memory.
